Dear Parents,
You will now be aware that the Prime Minister has announced a further period of national lockdown and school closure to control the spread of the Coronavirus.
The teachers have spent today preparing for the coming term and expected us to reopen to all children tomorrow. Now that everything has changed, staff need time to create new timetables. No children should attend school tomorrow.
Over the next few days, the staff will plan a programme of online and hardcopy lessons for all of the children. Please see the attached rationale for home learning to understand the background to this approach - it will be familiar to most of you from the previous school closure period. Your child's teacher will communicate with you once this is ready; it is important that the children are provided with meaningful work and learning.
Regarding Keyworker and Vulnerable Children provision: creating this provision involves removing human resources from the preparation of remote learning. The teachers and support staff work as teams to plan and create resources for the children in their care; forming key worker/vulnerable children bubbles will require a member of staff from each class bubble to look after any children on site rather than working on the preparation of home learning resources.
The new variant of the virus is highly contagious, making it impossible for us to work together with the other WARF schools in the same way as we did last year, whereby a large number of staff from all three schools took part in a rota to cover the needs of the small number of children requiring provision. This time each school must work separately and preserve the integrity of their bubbles so that when we re-open we can do this without compromising the safety of the staff or the returning children.
During the last lockdown, very few parents took advantage of key worker or vulnerable children places, and I ask again, bearing in mind all the above information, that parents consider carefully whether there is any other support you can use for your children so that staff in school can focus on the needs of all children in the class rather than the childcare of a very small minority. I hope that you can support the health, safety and wellbeing of the staff team in this way. If you do need to take advantage of a key worker place, please telephone the school tomorrow; staff will be contacting our most vulnerable families tomorrow to discuss provision for their children.
From tomorrow, once we receive further guidance, we expect to be able to organise food voucher provision for free school meals families as before.
I will speak with many of you later this week; to all our families I wish good health, stay safe, and once again we look forward to reopening our school once conditions allow.
